Access to essential medical equipment is critical in providing care to pediatric patients in the pre-hospital setting. The American College of Surgeons-Committee on Trauma in collaboration with the American College of Emergency Physicians and National Association of EMS Physicians have developed a comprehensive guideline for ambulance equipment for both BLS and ALS providers. This list has been endorsed by both the National EMSC program and the American Academy of Pediatrics. Equipment recommendations on this list may differ from state requirements.

EMSC has developed evidenced based model protocols for pediatric injury and illness for pre-hospital and emergency department providers. These protocols are freely available for use and adaptation by medical directors in accordance with local and regional scope of practice.
